Why electronics can't go in the regular bin

Electronics contain materials that cannot go to a landfill — lead and mercury in older CRT monitors and tube TVs, lithium batteries in laptops and small devices, and circuit boards with trace metals that need to be recovered rather than buried. Alberta runs a dedicated electronics recycling program for exactly this reason, and it is why e-waste is handled as its own stream rather than tossed in with general junk.
Lithium batteries specifically are a fire risk in a mixed load if they are damaged or crushed, which is part of why electronics get collected and routed separately rather than thrown in with everything else.
None of this changes what the job looks like from your side — you point at what is going, we carry it out, and the sorting happens after it leaves your property.
